The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, School of Osteopathic Medicine (UMDNJ SOM) Faculty Senate met on June 12, 2012.

The following motion was passed.

The UMDNJ SOM Faculty Senate is in opposition to the current NJ Senate bill S-2063 and NJ Assembly bill A3102 and wholeheartedly rejects the transfer of SOM to Rowan University.

After careful consideration, we feel that such a drastic change to the delivery of higher education in New Jersey would be detrimental to the highly respected medical education and research programs as well as to the delivery of healthcare in New Jersey and can see no advantage for the faculty and students of SOM in the current proposal.

In keeping with the spirit of the findings of the UMDNJ Advisory Committee, which specifically acknowledged SOM as a "gem" within the UMDNJ structure; and in conjunction with the UMDNJ Board Of Trustees recommendations, the faculty believes strongly that SOM be considered and treated as whole with the rest of UMDNJ.
