Learning Objectives for "The Practice of Pain Management in 2008" - September 18, 2008

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Gain an understanding of pain management, its treatment modalities and their outcome variables.
  • Identify various adjunctive medications including: antidepressants, anticonvulsants and topical treatments and their role in treating patients with pain.
  • Discuss opiates in the treatment of pain including legal issues of dispensing in a highly regulated climate.
  • Understand the physiology of various pain syndromes and their treatment modalities as well as understand the various challenges involved in managing these patient groups
  • Gain an understanding of low back pain and its treatments including the mechanisms of: chronic low back pain, radiculopathy, facet arthropathy, and spinal stenosis.
  • Understand the role of alternative treatments including OMT currently used in pain management.
  • Identify the different classifications and treatments of various headache syndromes.
  • Understand from the perspective of our clinical faculty their considerations for diagnosing and treating patients in pain.
