UMDNJ-SOM Researchers Discover Novel Mechanism of Complex Evolutionary Change.
Scientists at the School of Osteopathic Medicine have discovered how two different species solved the same evolutionary problem; how to create self-fertile animals that do not need to mate with males in order to produce offspring. The researchers’ findings appear in the November 17 edition of Current Biology.

UMDNJ-SOM Child Abuse Experts Available to Discuss Precious.
The story depicted in the movie Precious, while shocking, is not unique, and UMDNJ medical and mental health professionals who work with abused children can discuss the urgent issue raised in Precious: the impact that physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and domestic violence have on children and families.

UMDNJ-School of Osteopathic Medicine Researchers Identify Protein that Repairs Alzheimer's Brain Damage.
Writing in Brain Research, the researchers have identified a protein, vimentin, that normally appears twice in a lifetime – when neurons in the brain are forming during the first years of life and, years later when the brain’s neurons are under siege from Alzheimer’s or other neurodegenerative diseases. Through the federally funded NJGEC, NJISA now offers free Geripod podcasts for interdisciplinary practicing clinicians, students and others involved in primary care and aging.
