Welcome to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the School of Osteopathic Medicine (UMDNJ-GSBS at SOM). The GSBS was founded in 1969 to provide graduate training in the many disciplines of biomedical science. Today the UMDNJ-GSBS at SOM offers programs leading to the Certificate of Biomedical Sciences, M.B.S., M.S., Ph.D. and four dual degrees: the D.O./Ph.D., D.O./M.S., M.B.S./M.P.H. and the M.S./M.P.H.

On July 1, 2013, it is anticipated that both the GSBS at SOM and the SOM will merge with Rowan University.  This new university structure was enacted through the “New Jersey Medical and Health Sciences Restructuring Act”, which was signed into law by Governor Chris Christie on August 22, 2012.  This restructuring will serve to strengthen higher education in New Jersey.  Our partnership with Rowan University will provide greater opportunities in graduate education, medical education, research and patient care for South Jersey.  It is expected that you will receive your degree from Rowan University as under this law UMDNJ ceases to exist on June 30, 2013.  For more information please visit www.rowan.edu/integration.

We are especially interested in attracting talented students to our Cell and Molecular Biology Ph.D. Program. Accepted students can expect to receive a stipend of $28,455/year, tuition remission [$7,180 (NJ Residents); $10,401 (Non-Residents)], paid health insurance ($2,795) and paid general student fees ($350).

Our Master of Science in Molecular Pathology and Immunology program is a unique program of the GSBS at SOM in formal affiliation with Medical Diagnostics Laboratories LLC (MDL) and HUMIGEN LLC, the Institute for Genetic Immunology (both of Hamilton, New Jersey). This program is designed to prepare students for careers in diagnostic, immunology, molecular biology and pathology laboratories.

Unfortunately, for the Summer of 2013, GSBS at SOM will not be offering the Clinically Integrated Human Anatomy course to continuing GSBS-Stratford students as well as to students who are matriculated at accredited medical, dental, or osteopathic programs or enrolled as a graduate students at other relevant health profession schools. Click here to take a look inside the cadaver dissection lab and to hear from the course instructor, Dr. Carsia. Please look for its return in the Summer of 2014.

We invite you to learn more about the GSBS and the exciting and unique opportunities available to our students and faculty by browsing through our site.
