Didactics
PGY II
A portion of the clinical training during the PGY II year is centered at Kennedy Memorial Hospitals-University Medical Center, Cherry Hill Campus, a facility designed for short-term care of the patient with acute psychiatric disorders. Within the framework of a modified therapeutic community, the patient is initially assessed after a thorough diagnostic evaluation and individualized treatment plan is developed, utilizing the whole spectrum of therapies, including: individual psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, occupational therapy, and group and family therapies.
The Crisis Service at KMH-UMC, Cherry Hill Campus, and Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center is another site for clinical training during the PGY II year. This service provides the opportunity to provide, diagnose and begin the treatment process of patients in an emergency or crisis situation utilizing the skills and resources of psychiatric mental health professionals, social workers and psychologists in a team approach.
Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry is provided at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center. The service provided excellent training in this field. This provides the strong background in treating psychiatric disorders among the medically ill, as well as pertinent issues; such as, psychopharmacology, psychotherapeutic intervention in the medically ill, chronic pain, terminal illness, substance abuse and forensic issues in medicine and psychiatry.
Finally a rotation in Substance Abuse is provided at KMH Cherry Hill Detoxification/Rehabilitation Unit. Having this site is important in that a one month rotation in Substance Abuse is a new requirement of the ACGME.
