This facility has over 1500 deliveries per year, and the volume is increasing due to local demographics. Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center

Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center is located in Camden, a short commute from the UMDNJ-School of Osteopathic Medicine, Main Campus in Stratford. Lourdes has a very busy high risk obstetrical service. Residents work together with the in house Laborist and UMDNJ-SOM Maternal Fetal Medicine facult in the care of these patients. Abundant opportunities for both vaginal delivery and cesarean section coupled with the detailed clinical management of the high risk obstetrical patient make Lourdes an outstanding teaching facility.

Residents have the opportunity to participate not only on labor and delivery, but also in the main OR with gyn surgery cases at Our Lady of Lourdes. Though routine gynecologic surgeries are performed throughout the week, certain specialty procedures are also done at Lourdes. For example; on most Mondays, Dr. Howard Saul performs his gyn oncology surgeries with the Da Vinci Robotic System and residents are invited to attend.

To round out the educational experience at Our Lady of Lourdes there is also an ongoing didactic program that includes weekly readings reviewed on L&D as well as Tumor Board meetings, M&M Conferences and Grand Rounds.

As of July 1, 2009, Daniel A. Berger, DO, FACOG became the site director for the obstetrics and gynecology residents at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center.

From Our Residents

"There is such a variety of cases to see in our patient population. The attendings are passionate about their work and therefore are excellent instructors to those willing to listen. The attendings involve the resident in the cases so residents get maximum hands on experience.”— Cassandra Eakin, DO, PGY4

"This is a fantastic residency program that will start you on the track to becoming a fantastic surgeon from the first day you walk onto the Labor and Delivery floor. The volume of surgery to which we are exposed will adequately prepare you for life as an attending physician." - Jennifer Hummel, DO, PGY5

"Our attendings emphasize a strong patient-physician relationship and allow us to take part in surgeries that first year residents from other programs do not take part in until their second year and beyond. Also, some of the most amazing surgeries in obstetrics and uro-gynecology are performed here, something you won’t be able to see anywhere else!”— Virginia Chan, DO, PGY3
