Accreditation
UMDNJ-SOM is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Council for Continuing Medical Education. This CME Program anticipates 7 (Seven) Category 1A CME credit hours pending approval by the AOA Council for Continuing Medical Education. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Osteopathic physicians may earn up to 30% of their Category 1-A requirement from interactive Internet CME (i.e., up to nine Category 1-A CME credits for members with a requirement of thirty Category 1-A credits). To receive credit for interactive Internet CME, osteopathic physicians must complete a CME quiz with a passing grade of 70.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for all physicians. There are no prerequisites.
Educational Objectives
- Understand pain management as a chronic care condition and its appropriate management in the in and outpatient setting
- Understand the etiologies of addiction and challenges of recovery from a patient’s viewpoint.
- Understand the basic principles of opioid maintenance and refer patients misusing opioids to methadone and buprenorphine treatment;
- Develop effective strategies to prevent diversion and addiction while meeting the needs of patients with pain;
- Understand Legal Responsibilities to Prevent Diversion and Abuse When Prescribing Controlled Substances;
- Develop integrative and multidisciplinary approaches to care for patient with chronic pain or addiction.
