The San Francisco match is the service that must be used to obtain residencies in the following highly competitive specialties: Neurological Surgery, Neurology, Child Neurology, Ophthalmology and Plastic Surgery. These positions are PGY – 2 positions. Therefore, you must also go through one of the other matches (NMS or NRMP) in order to obtain a PGY – 1 position.
