Obstetrics and Gynecology

Cesarean Section in progressThis four-year, specialty- track program provides general training in obstetrics and gynecology as well as in all the subspecialties. Residency training is conducted at two area hospitals, Kennedy Health System at Washington Township and Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center located in Camden, NJ. Obstetrics and gynecologic surgery are also practiced at both hospitals. Residents may also complete a one or two month rotation in oncology at Cooper Medical Center, which is in close proximity to the other institutions.

The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - School of Osteopathic Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is committed to producing a qualified, competent, practitioner of obstetrics and gynecology by fostering an educational environment, comprehensive experiences in patient care, and guidance into leadership roles.

Our vision is to promote excellence in women’s health and a training program that gives trainees the capability to enter subspecialty training programs or to enter confidently into the practice of obstetrics and gynecology in the setting of their choice.

Residents perspectives

"There is such a variety of cases to see in our patient population. The attendings are passionate about their work and therefore are excellent instructors to those willing to listen. The attendings involve the resident in the cases so residents get maximum hands on experience.”— Cassandra Eakin, DO, PGY2

"This is a fantastic residency program that will start you on the track to becoming a fantastic surgeon from the first day you walk onto the Labor and Delivery floor. The volume of surgery to which we are exposed will adequately prepare you for life as an attending physician." - Jennifer Hummel, D.O. PGY3

"Our attendings emphasize a strong patient-physician relationship and allow us to take part in surgeries that first year residents from other programs do not take part in until their second year and beyond.  Also, some of the most amazing surgeries in obstetrics and uro-gynecology are performed here, something you won’t be able to see anywhere else!”— Virginia Chan, DO, PGY1
