Christ Hospital is located near the Jersey City waterfront, an area that has been called “The Gold Coast” of the state. Once lined with factories and industrial sites, the waterfront has been transformed into distinct neighborhoods featuring charming brownstones, upscale housing, hotels, shopping, restaurants and other attractions. Many businesses, including Merrill Lynch and Charles Schwab, have chosen to relocate to this thriving business, residential and social mecca. And of course, all of the attractions of Manhattan are just minutes away via ferry, train or car.
Our interns and residents also find that this area’s diverse population provides them with invaluable training in dealing with patients from many different cultural backgrounds. Long recognized as one of the nation’s most diverse areas, the Gold Coast boasts a large Latino population, as well as neighborhoods populated by immigrants from India, the Philippines and the Middle East.
This blend of cultures prepares our students to navigate around the many cultural issues that may affect a patient’s decision to seek or continue medical care.
Christ Hospital
Christ Hospital has provided outstanding medical care to Hudson County residents for more than 125 years. Our reputation for providing excellent medical care has been steadily growing. In fact, we were the area’s only hospital to be listed in a recent report by US News & World Report called “America’s Best Hospitals.” Hospitals included in this report had to meet strict criteria, such as a low mortality rate, high quality of service and specialized medical services with strong reputations. Christ Hospital is proud to be included in the listings for cancer care, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, geriatrics, gynecology, neurology, orthopedics, rheumatology and urology. Other specialties include behavioral health, maternity services, the Diabetes Education & Treatment Center and the Sleep Disorders Lab.
The Family Practice Center
The Family Practice Center is a thriving practice that is affiliated with North Hudson Community Action Corporation, a federally qualified health center. Located in a beautifully restored historic building, this center sees 15,000 patients annually. The office is equipped with patient exam rooms, procedure room, library, precepting room and resident workstation.
