Residency Curriculum

Intern Year (PGY-1)

The following is a sample schedule for the three-year residency:

Internal Medicine inpatient service Four months
ICU One month
Pediatrics inpatient service One month
Newborn nursery .5  month
Emergency room One month
OB/GYN inpatient service One month
Surgery One month
Elective One month
   

Interns will spend one-half day per week providing continuity of care at North Hudson Community Action Corporation Health Center.

The curriculum provides you with a broad-based knowledge of the many areas of medicine you will call upon in your career as a family physician.  The program’s flexibility also gives you the opportunity to choose from a wide range of elective specialties that match your individual interests.

First Year Resident (PGY-2)

Internal Medicine inpatient service Four months
OB/GYN ambulatory Two months
Pediatrics ambulatory One month
Orthopedics One month
Emergency room One month
Electives Two months
   

Residents will also spend three half-days per week providing continuity of care at the North Hudson Community Action Corporation Health Center.

Second Year Resident (PGY-3)

Internal Medicine subspecialty selective rotations Two months
OB/GYN ambulatory One month
Pediatrics ambulatory One month
Pediatric ER One month
Emergency room One month
Electives Three months
Dermatology .5 month
Urology .5 month
Ophthalmology .5 month
Otolaryngology .5 month
   

Residents will also spend three half-days per week providing continuity of care at North Hudson Community Action Corporation Health Center.  In addition, during the family practice rotation, residents act as resident-attending physicians with an increased scope of responsibility that includes all facets of practice management.
