Kennedy Health System / Our
Lady of Lourdes Medical Center
Interns rotate through all three divisions
of the Kennedy Memorial Hospitals --University
Medical Center in the suburban communities
of Stratford‚ Cherry Hill, and
Washington Township‚ as well as
Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center‚
a large urban institution. These institutions
provide approximately 1‚000 licensed
beds. Before training begins‚
each intern chooses to follow prescribed
learning experiences in one of several
areas, including Family Medicine, Traditional
Rotating Internal Medicine‚ Psychiatry,
OB/GYN, General Surgery or Pediatrics.
Each hospital offers large in–patient
and out–patient populations which
lead to varied indepth clinical experiences
that are enhanced by the educational
expertise of committed and dedicated
house officers‚ university faculty
and attending physicians.

Children's Hospital Jersey Shore University
Medical Center
The Department of Pediatrics at Jersey
Shore University Medical Center offers
a three-year residency program designed
to prepare physicians for careers in
the clinical practice of pediatrics,
academic medicine or research through
the UMDNJ-SOM OPTI. The program offers
a progressive curriculum in a nurturing
environment with individual attention.
There are 6 positions at each level.
Jersey Shore University Medical Center
is a regional referral center, with
a wide range of tertiary pediatric services,
serving a large and diverse patient
population.
The program offers a wide array of ambulatory
experiences. A growing continuity clinic,
neighborhood health centers, schools
and private offices offer the residents
a supportive environment in which they
provide primary health care to a diverse
population. In all of these settings
the resident serves as the primary care
giver under the supervision of our general
pediatrics faculty.
Christ Hospital
The UMDNJ-SOM Family Practice Residency
& Internship Program at Christ Hospital
in northern New Jersey, offers the opportunity
to train with experienced doctors in
a dynamic environment. The hospital
is located in a vibrant section of Jersey
City, ten minutes from Manhattan, New
York City.
The Traditional Rotating Internship
is a one-year program designed to help
explore a wide variety of medical specialties.
The hospital-based program provides
valuable experience in every facet of
medicine, including Internal Medicine,
Critical Care, Geriatrics, Pediatrics,
Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology,
Emergency Medicine, as well as continuity
of care experience at Family Practice
Associates North Hudson Community Action
Corporation, an on-site family care
center, where experienced physicians
provide a full continuum of outpatient
care to patients of all ages.
Christ Hospital also offers a Combined
Rotating Internship/Family Practice
Internship and Family Practice Residency
designed to prepare you for a career
in Family Medicine. All residents
and interns receive one-on-one training
from highly-qualified, experienced faculty.
The faculty’s enthusiastic approach
to teaching and the friendly environment
create an exciting learning experience.

The Children's Regional Hospital at
Cooper Hospital / University Medical
Center in Camden, New Jersey, offers
a Track Internship and Residency Program
in Pediatrics through UMDNJ-SOM OPTI.
Interns gain a wide range of in-patient
and out-patient experiences including
general pediatrics, pediatric subspecialty
care, normal newborn care, neonatal
intensive care, pediatric intermediate
care, pediatric emergency medicine,
and pediatric surgery. For more information

Requirements rance Requirements
All PGY-I Interns are required to:
- Have completed D.O. degree requirements
from an AOA accredited School of Osteopathic
Medicine.
- Meet UMDNJ-SOM OPTI application
requirements as set forth in the application
materials.
- Have obtained a passing score on
Part 1 of the National Boards / COMLEX-USA.
- Have valid Advanced Cardiac Life
Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced
Life Support (PALS) Certification.
- Comply with the New Jersey State
Board of Medical Examiners requirements.
- Comply with University requirements
as set forth in contract materials.

Programs will grant
residency credit for the 1 st postdoctoral
year of training. Students will apply
and "match" directly into the residency
and the 1 st postdoctoral year will
be considered the first year of residency

SPECIAL
EMPHASIS PROGRAMS :
This option will require
a preliminary 1 st year of training.
Programs will not grant residency credit
but indicate completion of designated
preliminary year curricular rotations,
as prerequisites for entry into the
1 st year of residency in the 2 nd postdoctoral
year of training. Application and matching
successfully assures entry into both
the preliminary year and the subsequent
2 nd year of residency training.

TRADITIONAL
ROTATING INTERNSHIP :
This option represents
a traditional rotating internship and
stands alone. Specialties that have
chosen this option prefer residents
in their specialty to have completed
a traditional rotating internship. This
option is also available to students
who are undecided on future plans or
are planning on entering ACGME training.
