Wireless Computing

The Stratford campus offers wireless access to the University network and the Internet. Wireless service may be used by all faculty, staff and students and is available in the Academic Center, University Educational Center, Science Center and University Doctors' Pavilion in the following locations: Health Sciences Library, classrooms, break-out rooms, public areas and meeting rooms.

Student Laptops

UMDNJ participates in the Dell University Program, which offers UMDNJ-SOM recommended laptops to students at reduced pricing. For more information and to purchase a laptop, please visit the Student Laptop page.

Wireless Network Cards

For those with existing laptops or if you purchase a laptop from another vendor, please ensure that your laptop has a compatible wireless network card. We recommend a wireless 802.11 /b/g, 54Mbps network card.

The University's wireless network supports those NIC (wireless) cards that are LEAP/PEAP compliant. Cisco has created a web page where you can verify whether a device is compatible with the LEAP/PEAP authentication. This page includes both individual NIC cards and notebooks with internal wireless NIC cards.

All Dell Latitude series D laptops with internal wireless NICs should be LEAP/PEAP compliant with the appropriate drivers installed (Intel wireless or Dell TrueMobile wireless NICs).

Registering your Laptop

To use your laptop computer with the wireless network please follow these steps:

Register the laptop by accessing UMDNJ wireless web site.

For help determining your Hardware Address click here.

An email confirmation of registration will be sent to you via email. The Account will be set-up and emailed to you within 5 business days.

Once you have completed the registration process, secured a user ID and confirmed that your wireless card is LEAP compliant, you can now proceed to call the Technology Service Center at 3-3200 or (856) 566-6437 to place a service request. An IST staff member will contact you to schedule an appointment to configure your laptop
