Department Overview

UMDNJ-SOM Department of Psychiatry is the largest provider of psychiatric services in Southern New Jersey. Founded in 1983, the Department offers a full range of psychiatric services to children, adolescents, adults, senior citizens and families. Over 95% of our psychiatrists are Board Certified and teach at the University Level. In 2001 the Department's faculty yielded over 30 publications. Apart from teaching and research, our outstanding faculty provides psychiatric care to outpatients at our University offices located at 2250 Chapel Avenue in Cherry Hill. We also provide University trained faculty to numerous hospitals, mental health centers and social service agencies. The hospitals staffed by our faculty include Kennedy Health System, Camden County Health Services Center and Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center. Our Developmental Disabilities Division is recognized nationally as a provider of care for individuals with developmental disorders and mental health problems. Approved by both the American Osteopathic Association and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education as a residency training site, our program has graduated over 50 psychiatrists who are practicing throughout the United States.

Services Offered

The Department of Psychiatry provides Psychiatric Evaluation, Treatment and Medication Monitoring in Outpatient and Inpatient settings. The Department also provides psychiatrists to a wide range of community mental health agencies throughout South Jersey.
