Obstetrics and Gynecology

Department Overview

The Department of ObGyn at UMDNJ-SOM is an academic group consisting of generalists and specialists, all committed to working collaboratively so that they may provide the highest level of healthcare to women of all ages. Our board certified physicians, our midwives, and our women's health nurse practitioner provide a broad spectrum of women's health services focusing on health awareness and disease prevention.

Services Offered

General obstetrical services
Obstetrical services include regularly scheduled office visits, in addition to a wealth of personalized information and health care literature which guide the obstetrical patient smoothly through her pregnancy and delivery. Deliveries are performed at Kennedy Health System in Washington Township. High risk obstetrical issues, such as diabetes management or advanced maternal age, are managed by our obstetricians in conjunction with our perinatologists in the Division of Maternal-fetal medicine, Joseph Bottalico, DO, Peter Konchak, DO and Geroge Davis, DO.

General gynecologic services
Gynecology services include annual preventive examinations and pap smears, breast exams, personalized health and wellness education, contraceptive education and management, menopause management, PMS care, diagnosis and treatment of STDs, colposcopy, and treatment for abnormal pap smears. Inpatient gynecologic treatments include consultations and gynecologic surgeries such as hysterectomy, sterilization, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy and more.

Midwifery
Midwives add a unique component to our obstetrical program. The midwives share caring deliveries with their patients, emphasizing that the normal process of pregnancy and birth can be enhanced through education, health care, and supportive intervention. Nurse -midwifery encourages continuity of care and emphasizes safe, competent clinical management. They advocate for non-intervention in normal processes and promote health education for women throughout their child bearing cycle.
