Headache has plagued mankind for at least five thousand years. The earliest medical records show accurate descriptions of headache dating back to 3000 B.C. Today in America, at least 42 million people suffer from regular headache and have spent billions of dollars seeking relief.

Unlike five thousand years ago, chronic headache is categorized and can be successfully treated and controlled today. However, many still needlessly suffer in private, believing that no help is available.

Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may consist of medication dietary and social pattern adjustments, biofeedback, osteopathic manual manipulation, stress reduction, and in some cases psychological counseling.

Services Offered

For 20 years, the University Headache Center at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ)-School of Osteopathic Medicine has helped chronic headache sufferers find relief from their pain and regain control of their lives. This multidisciplinary center finds solutions for patients who have not found relief even after seeking treatment from specialists such as neurologists, anesthesiologists, otolarynogolgists, ophthalmologists and pain specialists.

The University Headache Center has long been part of cutting edge clinical research that has resulted in breakthrough treatments. These breakthroughs help physicians throughout the country to treat patients suffering from a variety of headache and head pain disorders. Since its inception, the University Headache Center has participated in numerous clinical trials and research protocols that determined the effectiveness of new medications and non-medicinal approaches to headache pain.

Currently, the center is engaged in nearly half a dozen new clinical drug trials. A comprehensive care approach is provided including individualized treatment plans based on patient needs; alternative approach to medications; complete access to physicians; and participation in clinical trials.
