U.S. Military’s Newest Officers Take Oath of Office at UMDNJ
STRATFORD — Witnessed by family members and friends and accompanied by a military honor guard, eight graduating physicians from the UMDNJ-School of Osteopathic Medicine will swear to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies" during a Supersede Commissioning ceremony on Monday, May 21, at 9 a.m., in the UMDNJ Academic Center, 40 E. Laurel Road, in Stratford. The ceremony marks the official promotion of the physicians to the rank of officers in recognition of their completion of medical school. U.S. Navy Commander (ret.) Robert Prodoehl, Director of Operations at the medical school, will officiate at the ceremony.
Graduating physicians who are being promoted at the ceremony are:
- Ensign Brooke Bear (Bridgeton, NJ) - Lieutenant, United States Navy
- Ensign James Epperly (Moorestown, NJ) - Lieutenant, United States Navy
- Ensign Steven Sapida (San Diego, CA) - Lieutenant, United States Navy
- 2nd Lieutenant Eric Abbott (Colorado Springs, CO) - Captain, United States Air Force
- 2nd Lieutenant Michelle McKinlay (Phoenixville, PA) - Captain, United States Air Force
- 2nd Lieutenant Scott Osborn (Edison, NJ) - Captain, United States Army
- 2nd Lieutenant David Sulkowski (Bel Air, MD) - Captain, United States Army
- 2nd Lieutenant Kathryn Sulkowski (Bel Air, MD) - Captain, United States Army
UMDNJ is the nation's largest free-standing public health sciences university with more than 5,500 students attending the state's three medical schools, its only dental school, a graduate school of biomedical sciences, a school of health related professions, a school of nursing and its only school of public health, on five campuses. Last year, there were more than two million patient visits to UMDNJ facilities and faculty at campuses in Newark, New Brunswick/Piscataway, Scotch Plains, Camden and Stratford. UMDNJ operates University Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center in Newark, and University Behavioral HealthCare, a mental health and addiction services network.
